ARKAROOLA TOO PRECIOUS TO MINE

Friday, 14 May 2010

I am shocked and appalled that the Australian Workers Union is advocating the destruction of the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary.

It is extraordinary that the AWU wants to turn one of Australia’s most precious and valuable natural wonders into a factory for the production of uranium.

Instead of supporting uranium mining at Arkaroola, the AWU should be trying to stop its Federal Labor Government from threatening the $20b expansion of the Olympic Dam mine with its so-called resources super-profits tax.

Labor’s reckless tax on the resources industry is a huge threat to the proposed expansion by BHP of its Olympic Dam mine, and therefore to the economic prosperity of South Australia.

The AWU should stop threatening one of SA’s most valuable assets, Arkaroola, and get on the phone to Mr Rudd and tell him to abandon his reckless and risky Resources Tax, which really will cost jobs in SA.
